Employees, Local Communities

Activities that are valued by the local community and bring joy to the employees
Sumitomo Riko aims for activities in which each and every employee participates. By supporting the volunteer activities of our employees, we are creating a system in which they are valued by society and in which they can gain their own pleasure.

Sumitomo Riko Attaka Club

The “Sumitomo Riko Attaka Club” is a volunteer organization consisting of employees of the Sumitomo Riko Group. Throughout the year, the club participates in voluntary projects and those of external organizations, and also conducts volunteer activities for civic groups and other organizations.
As an information system to support volunteer activities, the “Social Good Activity Matching Site” has been established on the company website. The website lists volunteer activities planned by the company, clubs, and outside information-providing organizations, and matches them with employees.

General Incorporated Foundation “The Sumitomo Riko Attaka Fund”

The “Sumitomo Riko Attaka Fund” is a fund to support employees' financial volunteer work. The fund is open to direct employees of Sumitomo Riko and SumiRiko Creates, and has been expanded to SumiRiko Kyushu and SumiRiko Oita AE from the spring of 2025. Employees who register for the fund can donate up to 10 units of 100 yen each to the fund through payroll deductions. The company matches this donation with a matching gift to form the "Sumitomo Riko Attaka Fund.” This fund will support the “Sumitomo Riko Attaka Club” and will be used to support organizations working to solve social issues and humanitarian aid for disasters.
The Fund has supported various projects and activities in the past, and from FY2021, it has been supporting the “Dream, Town, and People Building Grant” project, which supports organizations working to solve social issues in the regions where the Sumitomo Group has its bases.
This foundation became a general incorporated foundation in November 2014.

Participation in the TABLE FOR TWO (TFT) Program

For every meal taken at the company cafeteria from the reduced-calorie menu to prevent obesity and lifestyle-related diseases, 20 yen will be donated to school meals for children in developing countries through TFT*. For every one meal consumed in developed countries, one meal is donated to a developing country.
Sumitomo Riko endorses this activity and started it at Komaki Plant in 2015 as part of its employees' social contribution activities. The Matsusaka Plant and Fuji Susono Plant have since joined the program, and cafeterias at all three bases are now participating in the program. To date, a total of 1,130,300 yen and 56,515 meals (as of March 2025) have been delivered.

Participation in Onigiri (rice ball) Action

Sumitomo Riko has sponsored Onigiri Action 2024 and held an in-house Onigiri Action event for the first time. Onigiri Action is an initiative to provide school lunches to children in Africa and Asia through TABLE FOR TWO by donating the equivalent of five school lunches (100 yen) per photo posted on SNS or a special website. On October 18, World Food Day, an onigiri (rice ball) photo session was held at the Komaki Plant, and a total of 268 photos (for 1,340 meals) were collected.
In addition, we were recognized as a “Silver Partner” and received a letter of appreciation for our support in fiscal 2024.

Chocolate Donation

Chocolate Donation is a winter-only fundraising campaign conducted by JIM-NET, Japan Iraq Medical Support Network. Sumitomo Riko Attaka Club has been participating in the Chocolate Fundraising Campaign since 2016, and this year marks the 9th year. This year, we newly participated in the “COFFEE Donation”. These donations are used for activities such as Iraqi child cancer support, operation of a comprehensive support facility for child cancer (JIM-NET House), support for Syrian refugees, and medical checkups to protect children in Fukushima from radiation.

Marathon Volunteer

Fourteen employees of Sumitomo Riko participated in the Marathon Festival Nagoya-Aichi 2025 held on March 9, 2025 as volunteers. Approximately 28,000 runners participated in this year's event. While the runners ran through the streets of Nagoya with various thoughts and feelings in their hearts, we supported the event management as volunteers who organized the course at the 13.5 km point.

Donation of Goods

We started collecting used books, CDs, DVDs, etc. from our employees and donating them to the “Continuous Employment Support Type A Business: Honno Kimochi (It’s just something small) in February 2025. In addition to providing employment support through the sorting of donated items, the entire selling amount is donated to the “Japan Committee for Vaccines for the World's Children, an authorized NPO,” thereby contributing to vaccine support for children around the world.

Volunteer Leave and Leave-of-absence System

Sumitomo Riko established a volunteer leave, and leave-of-absence system in 1999, in which employees can take up to 3 days volunteer leave and up to 3 years as a leave of absence.
We think that contributing to the development of society and culture through participation in social activities will establish attractive corporate culture and develop better professionalism by fostering citizenship, social skills and cultural awareness of employees.
